A Program for Moderation
A significant number of Americans carry genetic vulnerabilities increasing their risk of misusing alcohol, as they sometimes suffer legal, social, relationship, occupational, and health consequences from excessive use.
Though complete abstinence is the traditional response to alcohol-related problems, many people make repeated attempts to limit their drinking, with mixed results. Unfortunately, these genetic vulnerabilities make their efforts at control inconsistent, at best.
Say When is a live, virtual, 90-day program providing clinical support, in cooperation with medical professionals prescribing Naltrexone, to achieve sustained moderation in alcohol use. For more information on the Sinclair Method of administering Naltrexone, see the Fact Sheet from SAMHSA.
PROGRAM PHASES
Assessment
The criteria for admission to the Say When program are specific to those who are able to most benefit from a harm- reduction model. Therefore, an extensive Assessment is the first step, with a medical evaluation, biopsychosocial history, family interview and criminal background check as prerequisites.
Reset
We have found that individuals attempting to learn a more moderate style of alcohol use are far more successful when they first accomplish a period of abstinence to break old patterns and have a fresh start. The Reset Phase is an opportunity to fully understand your relationship with alcohol and redefine healthier routines.
Moderation
After the Reset Phase, you will be prepared for the challenge of developing new parameters for your use of alcohol, with the support of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and the initiation of Naltrexone, a harm-reduction medication that reduces the undesirable effects of drinking, particularly for those with a genetic predisposition to alcohol misuse.
